Well, this last weekend didn't turn out too bad after all. Although the Clear Sky Clock has its misgivings, it turned out rather accurate. There was a slight cloud cover Saturday evening, but it soon burned off completely yielding very beautiful skies. Of course the Moon was scheduled to wreck the dark sky, and she performed as expected!

Observing lasted until about 2:30 AM until we were about either ready to fall off of our ladders, or started seeing too many stars where we shouldn't have. Of course not all lasted until this time, but you gotta start somewhere! Overall it was a great experience for those who have not had the pleasure of observing at our "unofficial" dark sky site yet.

Personally, I tried to work on the Observer's Challenge List in preparation for the upcoming weekend, and didn't do too bad with my Televue. I did struggle a bit with the planetaries, but it's easy for me to blame the Moon under the circumstances.

I had the pleasure of meeting a few members of both our group and the Tacoma group. This was nice in terms of meet/greet activities, and I'm glad to say that we had a small presence on the mountain.

Unfortunately for all of us, it was a one-nighter, set-up at a premium spot that I'm sad to have to give up...there's no way I'm getting that spot this weekend, I know that for sure.

In the end, it was a great warm-up for me to get ready for next weekend, and a chance for others to try an all-nighter. I hope that more of you can join in the fun in the near future while our weather is yielding up some decent observing conditions.

For those who made the trek, thanks for coming along, and I hope you had as much fun as I did under the stars.

Did someone mention the Perseids in August?

Cheers,

Jon B.
President

Good Evening Members,

I have updated our guest speaker list containing all of our previous guest speakers and the subject of their lectures dating back to 1998. This has been uploaded to our new forum along with other documents including the SAS color logo, light pollution map, and a few other items of interest. These are in the new file directory of the forum. Please feel free to take a look at our historical line-up. I'd say it's very impressive!

 URL: http://groups.google.com/group/Seattle_Astro

Good Evening Members!

I'm experimenting with a new SAS 'Members Only' forum using Google Groups. If you've already seen the email and have already signed up, welcome! My goal is to see if this new forum will allow for better communication between all of us.

I know there have been some issues with our current set-up, so this experiment is intended to test out new technology that's available to us for free. Google Groups seems to have a decent interface and is easy to use, from what I can tell so far, so we'll see how it goes.

This new forum is not intended to replace any existing forums or newsgroups in the community, so if you are an active member in another forum, no problem at all.

Topics (aka Pages) will cover subjects like star parties, meetings, technology, for sale/trade, and many more to come depending on the response and participation within the SAS.
