  • Guerilla/Sidewalk Astronomy for How To Volunteer

John Dobson created guerilla astronomy. He would take his telescope out to the streets of San Francisco, point it at the moon, and ask passers by if they want to look at the moon. He became famous for it and developing an expensive telescope we now call the Dobsonian. We have a couple of members that do sidewalk astronomy but we can always use more. This is a great way to introduce people to astronomy and the club. If you would like more information please contact Jon at education@seattleastro.org

  • Neighborhood Star Party Host for How To Volunteer

We are looking for members that want to share astronomy with your friends and neighbors. These are called Neighborhood star parties. The idea is you choose a night, invite friends and neighbors over for a fun get together, have the telescope setup, and show them some things in the night sky. Have neighbors bring a chair, blanket, snacks and sit out under the stars and just be neighborly. We will help get you setup and training is minimal. If you would like to start one of these please contact Jon at education@seattleastro.org

  • Star Field Complex Volunteer for How To Volunteer

Work on the new dark sky site will begin in May. We need volunteers who want to help clear rocks, help smooth out the telescope field, build pads, and generally help develop the site. We will also need a dedicated group of "Friends of the Star Field Complex", these are volunteers that help manage and maintain it. If either or both of these sound interesting to you then please reach out to starfieldcomplex@seattleastro.org

  • Star Party Volunteer for How To Volunteer

We put on up to 4 public star parties each month. We are in constant need of volunteers at our star parties to help direct peole, hand out flyers, and operate telescopes. If you like talking to people and showing them the night sky then you would be great for this. If you think you have a great place to have a star party at and would like to host we are always looking for more locations. Contact Jon at Education@seattleastro.org for more information.
